4-Day Work Week Thoughts

Is it just me or has the idea of a 4-day work week taken the workforce by storm lately? Articles on why or why not to do it are blowing up my LinkedIn and Reddit. And everyone has an opinion. So here’s mine😏

Working remotely, we already have so much flexibility and freedom that working 5 days a week isn’t anything like the torture of punching a clock under a sea of florescent lights and cubicles. Half the week I’m in sweats, sipping coffee with an open window and a lazy, snoring dog at my feet.

There are no complaints here about working 5 days a week.

But I’d be lying if I said the 4-day work week wasn’t appealing. Who doesn’t love a perpetual 3 day weekend?! 😍

Think about it - with a 4-day work week, and a team you can trust, you can still put in the necessary hours to keep your business moving forward, but also have an extra day each week to explore new places, meet new people, and get inspired. And let's be real, we started working remotely so we could take advantage of all of those freedoms.

But, there are some potential downsides to consider. For example, a shorter work week could mean less time to get things done, which is especially challenging when you're juggling a team, travel, and work. And let's not forget about the financial implications - if you're paying your team for fewer hours, it could impact your bottom line.

Or a 4-day work week could lead to higher productivity, happier team members and better employee retention, which could actually end up saving you money in the long run.

If you have a trustworthy team (if you don’t, we should really talk🤞), clear KPIs and expectations around performance, then a 4-day work week can be an awesome advantage for your team & a sweet benefit for future hires. Talk about a competitive edge over the competition!🧨

In my humble opinion, it's all about finding what works for you and your team. So don't be afraid to experiment with different work schedules and see what sticks. After all, you got where you are as a founder because you’re about taking risks and trying new things, right? So why not embrace the 4-day work week trend and see where it takes you!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on it as well. Drop them in a comment👇
